from Ben =] Comprehending Engineers - Take One ***************************** Two engineering students were walking across campus when one said, "Where did you get such a great bike?" The second engineer replied, "Well, I was walking along yesterday minding my own business when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike. She threw the bike to the ground, took off all her clothes and said, "Take what you want." "The second engineer nodded approvingly, "Good coice; the clothes probably wouldn't have fit." Comprehending Engineers - Take Two ***************************** To the optimist, the glass is half full. To the pessimist, the lass is half empty To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it eeds to be. Comprehending Engineers --Take Three ******************************** A pastor, a doctor and an engineer were waiting one morning for a particularly slow group of golfers. The engineer fumed, "What's ith these guys? We must have been waiting for 15 minutes!" The doctor chimed in, "I don't know, but I've never seen such ineptitude!" The pastor said, "Hey, here comes the greenskeeper. Let's have a word with im." [dramatic pause] "Hi George. Say, what's with that group ahead of us? They're rather slow, aren't they?" The greenskeeper replied, "Oh, yes, that's a group of blind firefighters. They lost their sight saving our clubhouse from a fire last year, so we always let them play for free anytime." The group was silent for a moment. The pastor said, "That's so sad. I think I will say a special prayer for them tonight." The doctor said, "Good idea. And I'm going to contact myophthalmologist buddy and see if there's anything he can do for them." The engineer said, "Why can't these guys play at night?" Comprehending Engineers-Take Four ****************************************************************** There was an engineer who had an exceptional gift for fixing all things mechanical. After serving his company loyally for over 30 years, he happily retired. Several years later the company contacted him regarding a seemingly impossible problem they were having with one of their multimillion dollar machines. They had tried everything and everyone else to get the machine to work but to no avail. In desperation, they called on the retired engineer who had solved so many of their problems in the past. The engineer reluctantly took the challenge. He spent a day studying the huge machine. At the end of the day, he marked a small "x" in chalk on a particular component of the machine and stated, "This is where your problem is". The part was replaced and the machine worked perfectly again. The company received a bill for $50,000 from the engineer for his service. They demanded an itemized accounting of his charges. The engineer responded briefly: One chalk mark $1 Knowing where to put it $49,999 It was paid in full and the engineer retired again in peace. Comprehending Engineers-Take Five ************************************************************ What is the difference between Mechanical Engineers and Civil Engineers? Mechanical Engineers build weapons, Civil Engineers build targets. Comprehending Engineers-Take Six ************************************************************ The graduate with a Science degree asks, "Why does it work?" The graduate with an Engineering degree asks, "How does it work?" The graduate with an Accounting degree asks, "How much will it cost?" The graduate with a Liberal Arts degree asks, "Do you want fries with that?" Comprehending Engineers-Take Seven ************************************************************ Three engineering students were gathered together discussing the possible designers of the human body. One said, "It was a mechanical engineer. Just look at all the joints." Another said, "No, it was an electrical engineer. The nervous system has many thousands of electrical connections." The last said, "Actually it was a civil engineer. Who else would run a toxic waste pipeline through a recreational area?" Comprehending Engineers-Take Eight ************************************************************ "Normal people ... believe that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet." ----- Scott Adams, The Dilbert Principle Comprehending Engineers-Take Nine ************************************************************ An architect, an artist and an engineer were discussing whether it was better to spend time with the wife or a mistress. The architect said he enjoyed time with his wife, building a solid foundation for an enduring relationship. The artist said he enjoyed time with his mistress, because of the passion and mystery he found there. The engineer said, "I like both." "Both?" Engineer: "Yeah. If you have a wife and a mistress, they will each assume you are spending time with the other woman, and you can go to the lab and get some work done." Comprehending Engineers - Take Ten ************************************* An engineer was crossing a road one day when a frog called out to him and said, "If you kiss me, I'll turn into a beautiful princess". He bent over, picked up the frog and put it in his pocket. The frog spoke up again and said, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a beautiful princess, I will stay with you for one week." The engineer took the frog out of his pocket, smiled at it and returned it to the pocket. The frog then cried out, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a princess, I'll stay with you and do ANYTHING you want." Again the engineer took the frog out, smiled at it and put it back into his pocket. Finally, the frog asked, "What is the matter? I've told you I'm a beautiful princess, that I'll stay with you for a week and do anything you want. Why won't you kiss me?" The engineer said, "Look I'm an engineer. I don't have time for a girlfriend, but a talking frog, now that's cool. around the tree -bj
sorry for the lack of posts, guys. i feel like i'm losing my crown as blogging king. haha. finals are comin' up, but i promise lots of fatty posts as soon as their down. i'll probably post before then too ... but not as regularly as i used to. =/ so today the aacf servant team went to brunch at rick and ann's. duuuuuude. that place is in the ritzy area of berkeley. haha. right across from the claremont hotel ... crazy. it was really expensive there ... my meal was like ten bucks. =/// the portions weren't too big either ... well, i don't eat too much, so mine was more than enough. in fact, i gave half of my food to alex 'cuz he got there late and didn't have time to order. but yeah. the omlette was really good though. heh. cheese, spinach, and ham. yam yam. but yeah. i <3 the people on s-team. =D the table was so long though that you could only talk to a few people around you. (there are like fourteen of us on s-team.) i sat next to janette and jo ... and across from connie. also sorta talked to dan too. =] tonight was the fcs concert too. suhweeeeeeeeet. =]]] it was a christmas concert. haha. i kinda imagine what it would be like being in fcs. hrm. =] had a good time hanging out in dwinelle for a lil after the concert. got to talk a bit with garyho and jeff ... also got to see cool fcs people that i haven't talked to for a while ... theresa, tiffany, leo, nate ... nate was emcee. =] so albert suggested i write an exegesis. hrm. yesterday i almost started one on 1 Cor 1-2 ... haha. but i don't wanna get too into it right now. maybe during winter break. should be fun. haha. he sent me one of his on ephesians 1. soooo good. that albert. man. he has a lot of insights. i'm glad he's on core. i kinda asked him to consider discipling john cheng ... that was a few weeks ago. today john tells me that they're gonna give it a go. HUZZAH! =D found something really cool out today while studying exodus 14 at jason's apt. we were writing up a skit for this thursday's large group on the glory of God. well, it's gonna be more like a dialogue than a skit. haha. i'll post my thoughts later on exodus 14. i found it pretty cool though. haha. plans for winter break: -catch up on sleep! i really feel my body wearing down. i feel beat down. this semester has been pretty rough ... i feel myself getting sick ... and i don't really get sick often. i constantly feel tired. i'm so looking foward to winter break to just finally getting a chance to RESSST. -catch up with people. DUDE. i've been SO BAD this semester about keeping in touch with people. =/ it's kinda depressing how i don't know what's going on in anyone's life right now. blah. =/ it's like, i can't even keep in touch with aacf people that i see on a regular basis, much less people on other campuses. blah. i need to try a lot harder ... but hopefully i'll get a chance to see some people over winter break. i already have dates with amily, ruth, and chris (all from davis.) hopefully i'll be able to see a bunch more of you guys. =] -think and pray about the vision for my ministry at aacf. yeah, it seems like most of this semester connie and i have just been trying to keep our heads above water. it's been really draining ... but hopefully next semester we'll get a better sense of where God wants this ministry to go. =] -winter retreat! well, this is after winter break ... but DUDE. i so can't wait for winter retreat! i think fall retreat last year was one of the hilights of my year. haha. that's when i really started to get to know aacf people ... and i think it'll be a good chance for me to go deeper with a lot of the people at aacf that i don't know too well. -s-team retreat! this is also after winter break, but before winter retreat. it'll be good spending some time with the s-team. =] we also need to talk some things out which will also be good. -reading non-school books. i'm currently sorta going through three books - jerry bridges' pursuit of holiness / practice of godliness, ray comfort's revival's golden key, and tim lahaye's mind siege. heh. -more time to study the Word. i'm currently studying issues of personal holiness, men and women's roles in ministry, and the glory of God. it'll be good having time to dig a lot deeper. -see aunties, uncles, cousins, and grandmas on a more regular basis. =]]]] -write music. =D i've had a chorus for my song ever since aacf's large group on God's justice. i wanna flesh it out. the lyrics i have so far are: "we've never known Your justice, Lord / for if we did we'd surely be consumed / by the fire of Your holiness / You've never shown us justice Lord / for we deserved to die / for all the wrongs that we had done / but You sent Your only son to die and take our place / so that we might live and seek Your face / we've never known Your justice, Lord / we've only known Your grace." okay, that's it for now. haha. gonna do a lil more studying and then head to bed. i'm gonna go to living water tomorrow 'cuz first pres is having some special Christmas meeting (the "hanging of the greens"), and i'm not really too interested in going to that. haha. well, i'm torn 'cuz i kinda wanna go 'cuz pastor josh mcpaul is speaking ... and i heart pastor josh. haha. but yeah, i'll probably download his sermon from the first pres website once they post it. =] go bears! hoping for the rose bowl. i hope i hope i hope. =] the fifth wheel -bj
dude, this is GREAT. from jeff "The Old Timer's Poem" A computer was something on TV From a science fiction show of note. A window was something you hated to clean, And ram was the cousin of a goat. Meg was the name of my girlfriend, And gig was a job for the nights. Now they all mean different things, And that really mega bytes. An application was for employment. A program was a TV show. A cursor used profanity. A keyboard was a pi-a-no. Memory was something that you lost with age. A CD was a bank account. And if you had a 3 " floppy, You hoped nobody found out. Compress , you did to the garbage, Not something you did to a file, And if you unzipped in public You'd be in jail for a while Log on was adding wood to the fire. Hard drive was a trip on the road. A mouse pad was where a mouse lived, And a backup occurred in your commode. Cut you did with a pocket knife. Paste you did with glue. A web was a spider's home, And a virus was the flu. I guess I'll stick to my pen and paper, And the memory in my head. I hear nobody's been killed in a computer crash, But when it happens they wish they were dead! celebrate the day -bj
