yay yay! sweet! we're starting a prayer-partner ministry at aacf! we're breaking up into co-ed pairs and visiting all the aacfers to ask how we can pray for them and then taking time to actually pray with them. i'm excited to see how God uses this ministry ... and also i think God's placed on my heart a desire to pray for others ... right now i'm paired with Aimee. she's great. heh heh ... hopefully our schedules will coincide so i can be partners with her ... but it's cool if i switch ... all the people in the prayer ministry right now are great. wheeeeeeeeeeeeee. =]

so. i can't move. running very quickly on a wet field must've done it ... or maybe it was falling one too many times playing tennis on a very slick court this morning ... it was terrible ... it was like playing on clay. you just slide everywhere. i think i pulled something. or maybe i'm just out of shape. probably the latter. =P

you know what i wanna be? i wanna be someone refreshing. ummm ... i don't know how to describe it. but you know how sometimes after you're around someone, you're like, "wow! they're so refreshing to be around?" yeah. like that. tim's like that. so is steve. my cousin jay is ... and kristina lee is, too ... not that my other friends are stupid or anything. they're great people ... but some people ... i dunno. it's refreshing being around them. i'd say curtis cheung was like that, too. you just leave talking with them feeling happy ... even if they didn't say anything. =P

so yeah, i wanna learn to be more like that ... if that's possible. =]

today ... football challenge! haha ... it was great. the monday small group (mine) took on the wednesday small group (chris's) ... and michael and stephen played too ... we had stephen, they had michael. dude, chris's small group is full of athletic people. haha ... it was lots of fun ... lost 6 touchdowns to 3 though ... calvin is really good. haha. i think we matched up pretty well everywhere except for with the freshmen. jeff & john are just a lot better than jon and tony. =] we're supposed to play bball sometime ... haha ... we'd get wiped out in that.

the field was so muddy and my pants were so long. dude ... it was disgusting.

oh yeah, michael kicked our football into the tree ... then we got another football, a basketball, and a pillow stuck in the tree trying to get the other football down. haha ... probably spent twenty minutes trying to get everything out of the tree. i think the pillow's still up there. =P

after football, i went home to shower ... tim picked me up and we went to get pizzas ... headed back to chris and hung's place ... at pizza, watched the lakers. good stuff.

it's been a long week. i think i'm gonna relax a little tonight and sleep very early. =] hopefully it won't rain tonight; michael and i are planning to play tennis tomorrow morning. =]]]

my heart's still beating

i really like john piper's sermons. excellent. if you go to the site, there's an awesome sermon on the passage of Isaiah 57:14-21. every monday, wednesday, and friday for the next couple of weeks he's going through sermons about the attributes of God. =]

man ... i had a dilemma today.

tim and alex had six tickets for the warrior/laker game (they're laker fans from socal) ... and tim and i had just finished our cs projects ... so tim asked if i wanted to go to the game 'cuz he had one more ticket and couldn't find anyone else to go ... he even said he'd pay for the ticket 'cuz it was gonna go to waste anyway ...

and i really wanted to go to the game and had it been any other week, i would ... BUT

here's what i still have left to do:
1) ee40 homework due friday
2) ee40 prelab due tomorrow
3) monday small group prep
4) cs reading quiz
and ... the big one ...
5) SEVEN PAGE ESSAY due FRIDAY (progress: 0 of 7 pages complete.)

so yeah, i had to exercise some discipline and tell tim that i couldn't go to the game with him and alex ... =/

boooooooooo to homework.

praise God for helping me finish my cs proj, though ... dudddddddde it took so long ... but thank God it's done ... (i have another one due in two weeks. ARRRRRRRRGH!)

"How shall polluted mortals dare
To sing Thy glory or Thy grace?
Beneath Thy feet we lie afar
And see but shadows of Thy face."
(-Isaac Watts)

i was reading a.w. tozer's The Knowledge of the Holy, and i was going through the chapter entitled "The divine transcendence." it was a pretty good read. it was a really good reminder - it's not enough to give God eminence, or even pre-eminence ... we must believe in the transcendence of God ... the fact that He is so exalted above all creation that our minds cannot even comprehend it.

God in incomprehensible, but He isn't unknowable. it's awesome that God puts a desire in our hearts to seek and know Him, and that He is pleased when even the feeblest effort is made to know and understand Him.

oftentimes in our efforts to understand God, we compare humans to insects. in our finite minds, we imagine the gulf between humans and insects to be just like the gulf between God and man. however, it's not enough just to put God at the top of some-sort of hierarchy. as Tozer states, "we must not think of God as highest in an ascending order of beings, starting with the single cell and going on up from the fish to the bird to the animal to man to angel to cherub to God." we must not compare God to any created being? why? because God is just as high above the lowly insects as He is above man and angels. There is only a finite gap between the intelligence and worth of man and insect, but the gap between God and every created thing is infinite. to try to compare God in these types of analogies is only to take away from His greatness. believing we understand God is to limit His power and to make Him less God.

"People treat it as if the incomprehensible and most high Being, who is even beyond the reach of thought, were only their equal. Otherwise they would not say 'the Lord God, the dear God, the good God.' This expression becomes to them, especially to the clergy, who have it daily in their mouths, a mere phrase, a barren name, to which no thought whatever is attached. if they were impressed by His greatness they would be dumb, and through veneration unwilling to name Him." (-Goethe, the poet)

may we think rightly about God.

isn't it great when you're studying the Bible and you come across little nuggets that you've never noticed before? it's just soooooooooooo awesome. nuggets like Jeremiah 9:24 (which i had never noticed until this year ...) or passages like this one:

Isaiah 46
9 Remember the former things, those of long ago;
I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me.
10 I make known the end from the beginning,
from ancient times, what is still to come.
I say: My purpose will stand,
and I will do all that I please.
11 From the east I summon a bird of prey;
from a far-off land, a man to fulfill my purpose.
What I have said, that will I bring about;
what I have planned, that will I do.

wow. =]

went to program at the EECS 150 lab in cory. WOW! that's the nicest lab on campus! each station has TWO monitors ... so you can have your ssh shell open in one and emacs in the other ... it's great ... plus you can eat in there! wow! yeah, six of us were logged onto dan cheng's acct 'cuz he's the only one with a cs150 account. heh heh ... yeah, so me, tim, jeff, and john were all in there working on our cs project ... haha ... too bad we all didn't know how to do the last part ... oh well ... gonna do a lot more programming tonight ... 2/3rds done! haha ... dude, i didn't realize that cs61c has a project due every other week. =/ that's not much fun. i think i'll be spending a lot of time in the lab ... hopefully i can find out what's wrong with my cardkey ... =/

dan cheng: "is your xanga the one that starts with a 'd'? why don't people use their own names for xangas?" (visit dan cheng's xanga at http://www.xanga.com/dancheng haha ... =P )

jeff and john are great. those freshies ... haha. they crack me up ...

so this morning i woke up early to go to the soda lab ... i woke up at 7 ... walked uphill to soda ... IN THE POURING RAIN ... and find that my keycard is defective. can't get in. =/ so i wait for ten minutes or so to see if anyone will enter/leave soda so i can just go in ... but no ... no one's up at 7 apparently ... blah. so now i'm programming in my apt ... i mean, it's doable ... it's just a lot easier programming in the lab. boooooooo.

but i feel very sorry for timma. haha ... i thought i'm gonna have a tough week. he has a cs61c proj AND a cs61b proj due this week ... plus a math 55 mt. poor guy. although i'm sad that we're not having sg today ('cuz it's a holiday), i'm glad timma doesn't have to prep ... he's just toooooooo busy. =P
