"geez, i can't even read minds. that makes me pretty tele-pathetic." lol. random dinner conversation yesterday (paraphrased) alex: yeah, my friend was telling me about this hong kong cartoon. she was like, "yeah, it's about these fruits that fight crime. they go around hugging the bad guys and then they turn into fruits, too." and i was thinking, that's pretty gay. then she told me the name of the cartoon is "fruit basket." zinnia: haha! awww ... so cute! i want to become a fruit! alex: you can't zinnia: how do i become a fruit? alex: you have to be hugged by another fruit. me: zinnia, hug alex. kenny wu wears jeans. soooooooooooooooooo much work to do. =[ and i think i'm getting sick. so many berkeley people have the flu right now ... i hope i'm not getting it ... especially right before finals. =[ that is all. -bj
so ... my last lectures for four of my five classes were today ... a quick reflection of my semester: math 54 - eh ... we didn't learn much. math 55 - more interesting ... kinda hard ... the prof was a little wacko history 5 - eh ... disappointing. i like history, but this class was kinda retardo. poly sci 118ac - EXCELLENT ... the material was incredibly thought-provoking ... it was a cool class ... and the prof was very cool too. the only bad thing was there was a lot of readings to do ... but i found this an extremely interesting class ... i always looked foward to lectures and discussions. legal studies 103 - the last lecture for this class is tomorrow, but i really enjoyed this class, too ... not so much for the material, but more because the professor is so awesome. =] my advice: i recommend everyone take poly sci 118ac ... especially if you need an ac class. =] it was excellent. oh yeah, had telebears today ... whoa. today was pretty cool. so, i was walking to math, and isaiah was leaving our apartment at the same time ... so i had a good time talking with him, getting to know him better. =] aacf was awesome today ... the servant team just shared what God's been teaching them through serving on leadership at aacf ... and they shared their vision for aacf. it was goodah. =] then afterwards, we took communion as a club. that was cool, too. i was able to pray with jon wong ... and after aacf, i walked debbie home. =] she lives across the hall from my apt, but this was the first time i talked with her. doooood ... she wants to be a surgeon. =P she's been shadowing doctors, and she says she loves it in the operating room. haha ... meh. i was getting queasy just hearing her talk about it. good day, good day. meeting with james tomorrow. hooray. =] -bj
so it rained pretty hard today ... but at 4, it kinda stopped ... but it was too wet for me, dave, and henry to meet at the fountain ... so we met at the free speech cafe ... but we couldn't find seats, and we didn't wanna look in moffit ... but luckily the classroom right next to free speech cafe was open ... and no one was in there ... so we went in and met for accountability in there. cool how God provides. =] at small group today, in the middle of our discussion, ben gets up and goes to the bathroom. when he comes out, everyone starts sniffing. tim: "what smells so good?" ben: "i pooed." hmmm ... =] -bj

so i signed up for this 31 days of prayer for china. i guess it starts tomorrow ... and lasts through december. here's the prayer request for tomorrow. take the time to pray if you have the chance. =] DAY 1 Spread out along the Huangpu River, Nanshi and Huangpu Districts form the heart of old and new Shanghai. They also represent the original location of Shanghai, both the ancient town and the beginnings of the foreign concessions. As birthplace and modern-day center of the city, take time to intercede for these two important districts. Today there are over 688,000 people living in these two areas combined. Nanshi District is best known as the Old Shanghai. The original city was first located in this area more than 800 years ago. From its beginnings as a small fishing village, the town had emerged by the mid-Ming Dynasty to become an important point for domestic trade on the East China coast. Large cotton growing and production bases in the surrounding counties gave rise to the prosperity of the town. By the time of the Opium Wars and the arrival of the British, Americans, French and other nations, each demanding a concession, Shanghai was a well-established port. The area of the old city has seen many up’s and down’s over the centuries. Raided successively by Japanese pirates in the mid 16th century, the city rebuilt itself enclosed by city walls. Several uprisings saw many parts of the city razed during times of upheaval, occupation, and revolutionary movements as well as having endured bombings by the Japanese in WWII. The city has stood through all these times and been rebuilt on the same site over and over again. Today Nanshi remains as one of the poorest areas of the city, with many old and cramped dwellings dominating the area. The Government is beginning to rip apart many of the older shanty areas, and relocating the residents - making way for new housing towers. Nanshi is also home to the main City God Temple, Small Peach Mosque, Confucius Temple, several Buddhist and Taoist sites, and the tourist area surrounding the Yuyuan Gardens. Pray for the residents of Nanshi, and ask God to save every unbeliever. Pray that the name of the Lord will be lifted high and exalted over every false religion that has roots in this district. Ask God to establish His church here, deeply to the foundations of Shanghai, and to strengthen and equip it to minister to the poor and those who dwell in darkness. Huangpu District is both the geographical, and symbolic heart of the city of Shanghai. Today’s district contains what was once the heart the British Concession. The Bund, Nanjing Road (China’s Number One Shopping Street), People’s Square, Shanghai’s City Government Offices, the Grand Theatre, Shanghai Museum and many historic sites are all situated in this district. Pray for the gospel to impact the heart of the city and society. Pray for the cultural influences that touch the people of Shanghai through the Grand Theatre and Shanghai Museum, and ask God to be glorified through the arts. Pray that the people of Shanghai will have future opportunities to hear about Christ through all these media. Also pray for the 1.7 million who pass down Nanjing Rd. every day. Ask God to save all unbelievers from the heart of the city outward. -bj
