Java
You're the multi-platform Java. Demanding OO
structure, you can get complicated jobs done,
even if ugly, slow, or stupid-looking code.

What programming language are you?
brought to you by Quizilla

ugly, slow, and stupid-looking. yup. that basically describes all my programs ... you can add "non-functional", too, because my programs never work either ... =|

the clay aiken cd ain't half bad ... i still don't like his voice, though.

h2o today was pretty chill ... (haha ... chill. vir thinks i'm getting too ghetto. =] ) the san jose group led an apologetics meeting on why choose Jesus? ... haha ... hope they didn't get mad at the questions i was asking. i kinda knew what they meant, but i just asked questions to clarify for other people ... haha. steve says that i should fear retribution now. ugh. oh well ... at least our topic is something i've sorta done research on already. why does God allow evil in the world if He's a loving God? ... i wasn't going to be able to make the sf/berkeley led apologetics meeting ... but maria made eugene switch the dates ... =[ ... haha. now i'll have to help ...

head-sponsor steve gave me some good advice on how to lead a meeting on spiritual leadership. lots of prep work ahead ... but i have more ideas now ...

i'm tired. and i have lots to do tomorrow. booooooo. i don't know when i'll ever have time to finish my cross-stitching.

Duty

very touching.

stolen from AIMEE
"WHAT God did makes sense. It makes sense that Jesus would be our sacrifice because a sacrifice was needed to justify man's presence before God. ... However, WHY God did it is absolutely absurd. When one leaves the method and examines the motive, the carefully stacked blocks of logic begin to tumble. That type of love isn't logical; it can't be neatly outlined in a sermon or explained in a term paper. ... It IS inexplicable. It doesn't have a drop of logic nor a thread of rationality. And yet, it is that very irrationality that gives the gospel its greatest defense. For only God could love like that."

does anyone get tired of reading the same posts week after week? i mean, every monday i talk about my small group meeting and every tuesday i talk about my large group meeting ... oh well ... i keep posting about large group and small group just because it's always such a blessing to me.

today was no exception. aacf large group is a total encouragement to me. i really love the body of Christ ... so awesome ... =] the speaker today was pretty cool, too. he compared abraham sacrificing isaac to Jesus dying on the cross. it was pretty cool. today was also the first time i did prayer in the back. when i entered wurster, aimee asked me if i wanted to sign up for a fifteen minute prayer slot during large group ... yup ... so at 7:45, i got up and went to the back to pray with ben for the whole aacf service. it's amazing how good God is ... prayer was such a blessing ... it's amazing how even though we're praying for aacf in general that i can be so encouraged and uplifted just through talking to God and hearing ben pray. i really admire ben, too. he prays during the whole two hours ... the rest of us just sign up for fifteen minute slots ... but i believe God really listens and blesses the prayers we pray during large group. so cool. i got to meet more freshies today. freshies are fun. =]

what up, yo?

so, i just got tips from tiffany how to become unaddicted to blogging. she said to slowly wean myself of blogging. i shall start off by trying not to post more than two entries a day. here's my 2nd entry for today. =]

ummm ... so today i met with dave & henry my accountability partners ... that was cool. they really are awesome guys. heh heh ... good stuff. then i went grocery shopping with miko and stepho ... it was a 6B22E REUNION! heh heh ... we haven't all been together for a while ... anyway ... stupid safeway. they give cheap plastic bags. we were walking back to my apt and one of the grocery bags i was holding just ripped ... boooo ... the milk and some other stuff fell out. oh well. then i had small group at ben's ... =] i love going to my small group. i'm really learning tonnnnnnnnnns of stuff, and i'm really encouraged by the guys in my group ... especially the leaders, tim & ben. =] we talked about practical ways to improve our prayer life today. hmmm ... there were 9 points that we covered today. haha ... after every two points, we'd do a recap ... haha ... i think i've forgotten a lot of them, though. i need tim to e-mail out the list so i can print it out ... haha. lemme try, though.

1) Plan to pray. we need to set aside time to pray.
2) discipline yourself so you don't "drift" when you pray. stay focused on God when you're praying. a practical approach to getting rid of drift is verbalizing your prayers.
3) get prayer partners or accountability partners to pray with you.
4) try to learn from the way other people pray (like pastors). look to Biblical models, as well ... P.R.A.Y. - Praise, repent, ask, yield. look to the models of the Lord's Prayer and the Psalms.
5) be organized about your prayers. have a system. write down your prayer requests and how God answers your prayers. keep a journal.
6) pray according to scripture and according to God's will.
7) ummm ... haha ... forgot #7 ...
8) pray until you pray ... meaning, get beyond the superficial cliches ... pray from your heart ... keep praying until you get past praying out of habit
9) studying the Word can shape your prayer life ... don't just have head knowledge; have heart knowledge. know, learn, love, and do what the Bible says.

yeah ... that's a very stripped down version of what we talked about ... haha ... we went a lot more in depth ... i probably butchered some of those points ... i'm really going to try to practice these points ... i think they'll really help me in my prayer life. =] mmm ... goodah.

i can see clearly now

what is this, like my fifth post today? heh heh. just got back from living water fellowship. i really like that church, too. in a lot of ways, it's similar to first pres (the one i visited a couple of weeks ago), but it's a lot smaller. i recognized probably over half of the people there ... =] pastor james is a good speaker, though. i think this is the fourth time i've heard him speak. he's very enthusiastic when he's preaching. he spoke on the prodigal son and how we, as Christians, miss out on God's blessings through serving too much, through being self-righteous, and through not having a heart for the lost ... what struck me the most about today's message was the attitude of the older brother. i've stopped thinking of myself solely in terms of the prodigal son. the older son complained to his father, "i've slaved for you and you haven't even given me a small goat!" ... but because the older brother was working so hard, he missed out on the true blessing of just being with his father. it was so much about the material things that the father had and could have given the older brother, but the older brother did not accept or appreciate the blessing of just being in the presence of his father. in the same way, i think so often i get caught up in serving God that i miss the joy of just spending time with God. ... oh yeah, for Christ's sake sang, too ... they're REALLY good. you can tell that they practice like crazy. i forgot how cool acapella groups are ... =] i like lwf ... the people there are really nice ... a lot of aacfers go there ... it's reallllllly far, though ... haha. it felt like i was walking forever ... oh well ... tim kept me company walking to lwf ... hmmm ... now i'm not sure which church i'd go to next time i stay in berkeley ...

hi. my name is bryan. i have a problem. i'm a blog addict.

heh heh ... i was showering and thought of something i wanted to post. i wish i had big scars on my body. haha. yesterday at the soph potluck, tim was explaining how he got this huge scar on his arm. he said he was in this gang. he said he got the scar in a gang fight. i believed him at first, but then he said, "yeah, my gang was in a fight with our enemy gang." ahahahaha! then i cracked up. enemy gang. hahaha. funsies. =] i somehow doubt that you'd call them an "enemy" gang ... maybe a rival gang ... but yeah. anyhoo ... zinnia was like in shock. her jaw just dropped. she asked tim where he was from, and tim said "compton" ... everyone was cracking up, but zinnia was horrified. then he continued and said that some guy knifed his arm and then tim turned around and killed the guy. hahaha ... zinnia still didn't get it was a joke. she's funny. she reminds me of some friends of mine who are also very gullible. (*ahem, ahem*) ... =] good stuff, good stuff. haha ... tim's cool. he told the whole story straight-faced. i don't think i could have pulled that off, and i'm pretty good at these fanciful stories, too. i gotta get me a body scar.

speaking of tim, i'm off to go meet him ... gonna go visit the church he goes to, living water. yay. =]

i love to live in the house of the LORD. =]

California Remains Unbeaten, Defeats Stanford

Jerkov records 31 kills to lead Golden Bears

10/11/2003 -BERKELEY, CA — In what could be considered the biggest win in Cal volleyball history, the No. 9 ranked Golden Bears (16-0, 7-0) upset No. 4 ranked Stanford, 3-2 (30-22, 29-31, 28-30, 30-28, 15-9), Saturday afternoon at Haas Pavilion. Cal was led by junior All-American Mia Jerkov, who recorded 31 kills, four service aces and 12 digs. It was the 10th time in Jerkov’s college career she had finished with 30 or more kills in a match.

Other top players for the Bears were junior outside hitter Gabrielle Abernathy with 15 kills, and sophomore outside hitter Jenna Brown, who finished with 14 kills, a .400 hitting percentage and a team-high 15 digs. Freshman setter Samantha Carter had a career-high 70 assists.

Stanford (13-3, 6-1) was led by junior All-American Ogonna Nnamani’s 25 kills and 11 digs, and freshman Kristen Richards had 17 kills. Cal outhit the Cardinal, last year’s national runner-up, .333 to 266.

The Bears win over Stanford had several grand implications. It was the first time Cal had defeated Stanford since Oct. 1, 1982 and it broke a streak of 40 straight losses to the Cardinal. It was also the first time the Bears had defeated Stanford in Pac-10 Conference play. Cal’s win over the Cardinal keeps the Bears in first place in the conference standings, setting up an exciting showdown between No. 8 ranked UCLA and No. 1 ranked and defending national champion USC next Friday, Oct. 17, and Saturday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. at Haas Pavilion.

The Bears also had an attendance of 3,021 – the largest volleyball crowd in school history. Cal had a crowd of 3,125 on Oct. 15, 1999, but it was prior to the men’s and women’s basketball team’s Midnight Madness.

After out-hitting the Cardinal, .467-.111, in game one and winning, 30-22, the Bears allowed Stanford to come roaring back to win the second and third games, 31-29 and 30-28. However, Cal was able to stop the Cardinal’s momentum on an impressive hitting streak by Jerkov in game four. With the Bears down, 23-21, Jerkov was able to rattle off two kills and two service aces to lead Cal on a 5-0 run, on the way to a 30-28 win. From there, the Bears were able to overcome an early 3-1 deficit in game five to win 15-9 – behind seven Jerkov kills, and finally a Brown solo block sealed the win for Cal.

“This win was absolutely huge for us,” said Cal coach Rich Feller, who grew up in Palo Alto. “This definitely gives credibility to our team, and to our program. This shows we are one of the top teams in the country. I was very impressed with how we executed our game plan and how we handle the pressure of playing in front of our biggest crowd. It is pretty impressive to finally defeat a team we haven’t beaten since before our players were born.”
