i'd rather have JESUS than silver or gold
i'd rather be HIS than have riches untold
i'd rather have JESUS than houses or land
i'd rather be led by HIS nail-pierced hand

than to be the king of a vast domain
or be held in sin's dread sway
i'd rather have JESUS than anything
this world affords today

i'd rather have JESUS than vain applause
i'd rather be faithful to HIS dear cause
i'd rather have JESUS than worldwide fame
i'd rather be true to HIS holy name

than to be the king of a vast domain
or be held in sin's dread sway
i'd rather have JESUS than anything
this world affords today

HE's fairer than lilies of rarest bloom
HE's sweeter than honey from out of the comb
HE's all that my hungering spirit needs
i'd rather have JESUS and let HIM lead

(I'd Rather Have Jesus, thea miller, george beverly shea)

where are your priorities? "stuff of earth competes for the allegiance i owe only to the giver of all good things." (from If I Stand by Rich Mullins)

i'd rather have Jesus than anything the world affords today.

how about you?

i've got essay-fever. ummmm ... well. no. but i have two papers to start and finish this weekend. ugh.

h2o yesterday was pretty cool. i was wearing my mark mulder t-shirt, and little greg hall (my 2nd cousin; he's about 9?) was wearing his hudson t-shirt. then greg started making fun of mark mulder's injury ... he did a hilarious imitation of how mark mulder got injured ... haha ... if he weren't my cousin I'd ... =]

cts went well, i think. lots of sharing. my favorite part of cts is just sharing how God's been working in our lives and then the prayer time afterward ... too bad we usually don't have enough time for that.

no purchase necessary.

the sophomore class at aacf fall retreat. we're a pretty big class. so many other sophomores didn't go ...
i'll name the guys, l-r. me, albert, nate, dave tsai, steven, billy, tim, alex, (top row) jon tsai, chris, jason.

haha ... i know the guys a lot better 'cuz we did a lot of stuff single sex. haha ... oh well ... i'll get to know the girls better as the weeks go by.

Freshmen.

overall, about 65 people went to retreat (some people left early, so they aren't in the picture) ... not bad. we average around 90-100 at large group ... i think. ionno.

midterm went okay ... i wish i had a little bit more time to recheck some stuff. ugh. oh well. did the best that i could. it was funny. i got to class and saw louis, and he had a blue book out. i didn't know that we needed blue books, so i ran from vlsb back to my apartment. haha ... i got back to class feeling lightheaded. oh well. i'm glad a live so close to vlsb.

i got back to my comp after my midterm and my poly sci class and had messages from five different people that said they were praying for me! that's SOOOOOOOOOO encouraging! thanks, guys. i'm always here to pray for you, too.

i like this song. it was the theme song for the aacf retreat.

All

You're the one who gives me shelter...
and you're the light that leads me home
you're the love that gave forever...
Lord you're all that I know

Chorus:
And all that I am... unto you I surrender...
Lord there is none like you
And I know that I stand... in the arms of forever...
Lord there is none like you
There is none like you

Verse 2:
With the world upon your shoulders...
Lord you gave your life away
if the world I know was over...
I know I'd have life in the price You paid

Bridge:
And I will stand...and I will worship You forever... for all You are
And I will stand...and all to you I will surrender... I'll worship you forever

with the world upon your shoulders

i miss tina. =[

aacf was pretty cool today. calvin jr said he'd look for a discipler for my accountability group ... had a chance to talk with some of the people i met at retreat. steven is cool. i love him. haha ... i'm supposed to go cheer him on at his im basketball or im soccer game ... too bad i'm too lazy to get rsf membership ... i also had a chance to walk a freshman girl back to her apartment. i had a good talk with her. she went to california high and knows joann! haha ... whoa. she's very nice, though. i hope she comes back to aacf. (on a side note, telegraph is scary at around 9:30 ... i'm glad she let me walk her back.)

lots and lots of work. ugh.

on my way to you

doodoodoo. today was hot.

this is going to be a long week. so much work to do.

anyhoo ... we had an off-week in our small group ... every third week we don't do our study on prayer, but do something different. it was cool ... ben and tim cooked for some chicken and pasta for us ... it wasn't bad ... well, i didn't try ben's chicken 'cuz i wasn't hungry. i had tim's chicken, though ... ben also led us in a time of just worshipping God ... pretty awesome stuff ... i thought it was weird at first 'cuz i've never just had a time of singing with only guys ... but i'm glad i got a chance just to worship God with my brothers in Christ ... =]

oh yeah ... after sg, i asked tim how his 61b midterm went ('cuz i read in carise's e-mail that it was kinda bad) ... he was like, "did we have a midterm today?" ... =[ ... poor tim. he forgot there was a midterm. hopefully garcia will be nice and let him retake it ... tim was in charge of AACF fall retreat so he totally forgot he had a midterm today. =/

i hear my heart - it beats so loud[ly]

GOD IS GOOD! SO GOOD! SO AWESOME!

i had the most uplifting time at the AACF fall retreat. i really saw God's hand in everything that went on. God spoke to my heart in so many ways. if you wanna hear about it, just ask me. there's too much to even put down in a blog post about all the lessons God's taught me.

anyhoo ... driving to santa cruz was a very interesting experience. it was sort of a rush going through tons and tons of windy roads ... too bad i got carsick. God's good, though, 'cuz if i wasn't driving, i would have gotten even sicker ... =]

so friday i drive and pick up ben and calvin chen [senior]. we then go to pick up eric at unit 2, but he needs to finish some physics 7a homework ... haha ... we help him (errr ... ben helps him) then we go down to santa cruz. we end up leaving at around 4:30. we stop in cupertino to eat. since ben's from cupertino, he suggests we go to bj's. it's a pizza place. it's a way cool place. they had free valet parking. haha ... i felt embarassed that they had valet for the old accord i was driving ... there were so many fancy-schmantzy cars in the lot ... haha. anyhoo ... food was excellent. we stayed there for an hour and a half ... haha ... we thought we were going to get to the retreat on time (7:00), but we ended up not leaving bj's until after 7 ... the ride to santa cruz was very cool ... got to know all the guys a little better. calvin's sister teaches at ccs ... that's pretty cool ... then me, ben, and calvin started talking theology in the car (eric was asleep) ... we had good talks on crowns in heaven ... mmmm ...

we drank too much at bj's so we stopped twice to use the restroom ... haha ... =] ... i just realized that this is going to be a long post. i have so many stories, and these aren't even stories of all the things God's taught me! oh my goodness! anyhoo ... as we get closer to camp, i keep having to pull over to the side of the road so cars can pass me. i'm too slow ... well ... it was very dark and very windy ... anyhoo ... as we approach the camp, we start to follow this really slow guy. soooooooo slow. we eventually realize he's from aacf ... he pulls off to the side to let us pass, but i want to follow him so ppl don't get mad at me for driving slowly ... anyhoo ... we get out of the car, and he gets freaked out 'cuz he doesn't recognize us ... haha ... (he's easily freaked out) ... he thought we were axe-murderers ... dave tsai was in that car ... apparently they left about the same time as us, but they didn't even stop anywhere for dinner ... haha. slow.

we got to the camp and unloaded ... half the people weren't there yet, so we weren't too late ... once most people got there, we did ice-breakers ... some girls made puzzle-piece name tags for all of us, and we had to connect all our pieces to form one big puzzle ... the name-tags are incredibly nice ... (on a side note, i have my nametag along with albert and ben's for some reason ... hmmm ... methinks i stole them) ... anyhoo ... that was fun.

ummm ... i just realized that i have too much to say. i'll just highlight some cool stuff.

the camp. the camp was AWESOME! two trillion times better than the camp we stayed at for h2o retreat ... they had bathrooms in the cabins! whoa! with showers! whoa! and they had this awesome rec room with a shuffleboard table, pingpong table, pool table, and foozball table ... they also had the most COMFORTABLE couches i've ever sat on! black leather ... nice. the cabins were very clean, too, and had carpet (albeit not very nice carpet) ...

foozball. (or however you spell it.) dave tsai and i were partners and we were probably the second-best team at the retreat. unfortunately, no one could be ben poon and calvin chen [junior] ... dave and i beat them once, so we had this ongoing rivalry ... unfortunately they beat us every other time we played. =[ ...

late nights in the rec room. both nights i stayed up late ... playing foozball until my forearms hurt or betting with jenga blocks in texas hold-em poker ... fun stuff.

food. the food was some of the BEST food i've ever tasted. they had the yummiest bread. mealtimes were awesome times for me because i tried to make it a point to sit with different people at each meal ... i met lots of people.

speaker/message. the speaker's messages were very thought-provoking. it really made me re-evaluate what he was saying and check to see if it was his own personal opinion or Biblically based. i'm not going to go into everything i've learned ... you can ask me about it, and i'll share with you! =] ... i really did learn SOOOOO much and i have many many decisions this past retreat.

small groups. we were each assigned a small group and we met a couple of times during retreat. i had awesome guys in my group, and it was just cool hearing what God was teaching them throughout the retreat.

people. i've had a chance to meet so many people ... i really bonded with a couple of the guys. ezra, james, and steve ... really cool. also spent a lot of time with dave tsai.

seminars. we had a chance to go to two of six seminars that were being taught by aacfers ... there were so many i wanted to go to, but i only ended up going to ben's seminar on male sexual purity ... i'm really thankful for ben. he's been a real encouragement to me in so many ways. (he's also my small group leader, was in my retreat small group, and was also my navigator on the way to santa cruz.) ... anyway ... his seminar took up both hours, so i couldn't go to the ones on decision making or on body worship ... still, ben really taught me a lot.

prayer partners. i absolutely LOVED the idea of prayer partners. we were randomly paired with another person of the same sex and given time to meet and pray with that person throughout retreat. during my first meeting with my prayer partner, i did not get a very favorable impression of him ... however, the second time we met, God really used him to teach me some pretty cool stuff.

worship. there's something absolutely amazing about worshipping God as a body of believers ... especially when we all don't know each other that well ... it's extremely powerful ... the worship team was very good and practiced very hard.

football. haha ... the lower classmen took on the upper classmen in football ... we lower classmen were severly outnumbered ... haha ... there were so many people playing ... it was just chaotic. there were over a dozen turnovers. haha ... i intercepted the ball twice ... dave tsai intercepted the ball three times, but threw two or three interceptions himself ... haha. in the end, the score was tied, 2 touchdowns to 2. go lower classmen! =]

accountability. dave tsai and i decided to try to start doing accountability along with one of dave's friends that was not at the retreat. i really hope that that takes off.

theme. the theme of the retreat was "all for one" ... despite what it sounds like, the theme of the retreat wasn't unity. it was surrender ... surrending our all, our everything to one person, the Lord Jesus Christ.

reflection time. the reflection time after one of the worship times is one of my favorite memories of the retreat. everyone searched their hearts while justin lau played piano and sang songs to God. people were praying for each other and many decisions were made. i myself made many decisions during that half-hour or so of just really praying and worshipping God ...

morning prayer. morning prayer was scheduled for 8:30 each morning, but usually people overslept so not many people were able to make it. even though i only got about three hours of sleep both nights, i'm really glad that i woke up in time for morning prayers ... it was so uplifting ... the first morning we prayed with our small groups ... haha ... only three people from my small group made it to morning prayer ... me, alex, and jonathan wong ... the second day we broke into our classes to pray ... there were five sophomores praying ... it was so cool because we shared what we had learned over this past weekend and we really had an awesome time of meeting with God in prayer.

bonfire ... the bonfire was cool ... very warm ... very toasty. many people shared ... we were out there until 2 in the morning ... =]

pictures. i wish i had a digicam. anyhoo ... we took pictures for a very long time ... as a whole body of aacf and as different classes ... i like my sophomore class. =] i'll try to steal pictures from people and post them here later.

drive back up. ugh. i got car sick ... anyhoo ... wasn't too bad. made it back to berkeley in an hour and a half. i think my driving skills have improved tenfold ... haha ...

overall:
God is amazing. Totally amazing. He just worked everything out so perfectly. (Ask me, I'll share. =]) It was awesome being able to spend a whole weekend just focused on God and His word. In addition, God helped me meet so many brothers and sisters that just love God with all of their heart. i've been blessed SO much. thank you all so much for your prayers. thankyouthankyouthankyou.

random stuff:
"I'd give my left arm to be ambidextrous!" -Jen Tom.
"There's one thing you really have to be careful of. You have to really be careful when you're alone with my girlfriend." -Ben Poon. (he meant "your girlfriend".)

good stuff:
kyle being a ballerina. ahahahaha. i wish i had a digicam.
cindy being a california roll ... ahahhaa ... i wish i had a digicam.
pons and david dancing ... ahahah ... i wish i had a digicam.
tim being dogpiled. multiple times. ... ahahaa ... you know what comes next.

ugh. anyhoo ... now on to schoolwork. =P ... i wanna cry. haha ... so much work to do now.

be the king of my heart
