I recently purchased a new cd. After only listening to it twice, I have come to the conclusion that it is my favorite album of all time. As many of you know, I have many cds. This last cd I've purchased is quite incredible. The music just evokes really strong emotions from me. It's an incredible album. I highly encourage you all to purchase Dave Koz's The Dance. Wow. I can't even describe how wonderful this cd is. Awesome. Just awesome.

Also, if you're looking for a good read, I've been reading Perry Miller's The Errand and the Wilderness. I'm reading two chapters from this book for my Poly Sci class. It's quite interesting. Read it. It'll be good for you. :-D The purpose of the book is basically to explore how the Puritans of the Massachusetts Bay Colony discovered their own "American" identity.

never gonna dance again

(Edit to this post: I woke up this morning and realized I had spelled a word in this post incorrectly. Weird. I just woke up and realized that I needed to fix that. Hmmmm)

hihi.

yesterday we had a ccs reunion ... somewhat. alan a (my new boyfriend ... haha ... uhm ... don't ask), jasmine, vir, clif, jessica, and daniel (he's not a ccser), went to baker's square to eat. yummy. the waitress was new so she kept coming back to ask us stuff like, "oh yeah, how do you want your eggs?" then she'd come back again and say "did you want toast or hashbrowns?" ... oh well. i think she was trying, at least. ANYHOO. h2o was good stuff ... there were billions of people! it was very exciting. there were also four new ones. yay! d wong talked about predestination. he was better than i thought he'd be. i like his simple view on the topic. God determines the choices we're given; we determine the choices we make. i like it. a lot of homework to do today ... blah.

End of Week Reflection.

Wow. A week of school has come and gone. It's just a little after eleven right now and I'm already done for the day. I've had an amazing day and an amazing week. Surprisingly, I greatly enjoy all of my classes (except for my math 54 lecture). I've gotten to know chi better, and we have tons of fun. I can't wait to really start getting into the groove of things ... there's so much I want to do this semester. I'd really like to get more involved with AACF, whether it be joining a small group, tabling, or witnessing on campus. We'll see. I also kind of want to be a middle school mentor with Project Smile. So much stuff, so little time. (*sigh*)

If You Want Me To
Ginny Owens

The pathway is broken
And The signs are unclear
And I don't know the reason why You brought me here
But just because You love me the way that You do
I'm gonna walk through the valley
If You want me to

Chorus:
Cause I'm not who I was
When I took my first step
And I'm clinging to the promise You're not through with me yet
so if all of these trials bring me closer to you
Then I will go through the fire
If You want me to

It may not be the way I would have chosen
When you lead me through a world that's not my home
But You never said it would be easy
You only said I'd never go alone

So When the whole world turns against me
And I'm all by myself
And I can't hear You answer my cries for help
I'll remember the suffering Your love put You through
And I will go through the valley
If You want me to

Homework! Oh, homework!
I hate you! You stink!
I wish I could wash you
Away in the sink,
If only a bomb
Would explode you to bits.
Homework! Oh, homework!
You're giving me fits.

I'd rather take baths
With a man eating shark,
Or wrestle a lion
Alone in a dark,
Eat spinach and liver,
Pet ten porcupines,
Than tackle the homework
My teacher assigns.

Homework! Oh, homework!
You're last on my list
I simply can't see
Why you even exist
If you just disappeared
It would tickle me pink.
Homework! Oh, homework!
I hate you! You stink!

classes ... bah.

history discussion was not bad ... i need to take a class to become more assertive ... i had some stuff to say ... people were being obnoxious ... somewhat, at least ... i'm tired of hearing about slavery and women's subjugation ... eh ... i'm just a hater.

okay ... here we go. recap of day two.

History 5 Lecture
The subject seems semi-interesting, but the professor tries to hard. I think four or five times he had to say, "That was a joke." He tried to be funny and he tried to sound eloquent, but it just came off as too rehearsed. For his lecture, he was just reading from something he typed up. He didn't even look up. Rating: (Professor 5/10, Class 6/10).

Math 54 Lecture
This class was packed. 2050 VLSB seats 400+, but there were way more than that. I think 400 people are enrolled, but 100+ people are waitlisted. HAHA! I'm SUPERIOR TO ALL YOU WAITLISTED FOOLS! :-D ... j/k ... but i like laughing at michael 'cuz he's like 70 on the waitlist. The professor seems competent (compared to my last two math professors), and the material doesn't seem as esoteric. Rating: (Professor 7/10, Class 7/10)

Math 55 Lecture
This class was in the same room as my math 54 class, but the room was half empty. I started to drift asleep a couple of times, but about twenty minutes into the lecture I was roused awake by my professor's suprising humor. He's pretty funny - a lot like my legal studies professor. The material was utterly fascinating in that it didn't really have much to do with math, but had more in common with programming. Rating (Professor 8.5/10, Class 8/10)

Poly Sci 118AC Lecture
I was utterly disgusted to find out that my professor had changed the required books for the class. Apparently I don't need four of my books, and in addition, I need to pick up two new ones as well as a fat 'ol reader. Boooo ... It looks like I'll need to read 200+ pages a week for this class. It's a very reading and writing intensive class. My professor speaks at a very high level, but I look foward to future lectures because the subjects we'll be covering seem quite interesting. Rating (Professor 7/10, Class 8/10)

well, that's about it ... gotta start doing a whole bunch of reading ... ugh. no fun. i tried to buy my reader at copy central, but there were like thirty people in line.

there was an old lady who swallowed a fly
i don't know why she swallowed a fly
perhaps she'll die

anyway, here's the blow-by-blow account of my first day in class.

unable to sleep due to school anxiety, i wake up several times during the night. i eventually get up ten minutes before my alarm goes off (6:30), and then proceed to clean up. after my morning obligations, i sit down and enjoy a cup of yogurt (mixed berry). following that, i go outside for qt. i leave the apartment at 7:35 and go to meet victor at the bart station so he can give me his math 54 book.

i get to my psych 2 class exactly at 8. the class is in the gpb. very nice building. the teacher's pretty cool. her name was emilia or something ... it's like a combination of emily and amelia. anyhoo ... pretty interesting class. i felt right at home. it was a good start to the day. i was really excited, too, because we were told to participate in some experiments ... funzors. my initial review of the teacher/class (teacher - 7/10. class 8/10).

our professor let us out early because there wasn't much to talk about. i then went on to go to my legal studies lecture in mccone, and passed mary lou and betty on the way. i stepped into the room and was immediately intimidated. suddenly everyone looked so much older, probably due to the fact that it was an upper-div class. i took a seat in the very last row. my professor comes into the room and right away i like him. a lot. he was hilarious. i was laughing the whole time (even though most of the class wasn't.) he has very subtle humor, and you can tell that he doesn't purposely try to be funny. the lecture was very interesting, too. it immediately got my brain working. he also was very good about being neutral about very hotly-debated topics (free speech, marriage, the secularization of america) ... i was totally impressed. i really want to take this class, but i also really want to take psych. i have to decide which one to drop. professor lieberman also said that i'd probably be able to get into the class (i'm #7 on the waitlist), but i'd have to get into a section first. unfortunately, i can only attend one of the four sections. this means if the section i want is full, i'm not gonna be in the class. booo ... my rating of this class (teacher - 9/10, class 8/10)

next i rushed to evans for my math discusision. andrew tse is in my discussion. that's pretty cool. he whines a little, though. our gsi was oleg's twin sister! i mean, she was EXACTLY like oleg. she spoke like him and even looked a little like him! math discussion was surprisingly very painless. she had us do "math relays" for chocolate. basically, we broke up into teams, and she gave us one math problem at a time. once we finished one, we ran up and got the next one. man, my math 1b skills are pretty rusty. i forgot vector and matrix stuff ... ugh. oh well. my team didn't win the chocolate. alice, my gsi, did say that we'd have two homework problems on the quiz, and one, and i quote, "unreasonably hard" problem. uh-oh. (gsi - 7/10, class ?)

immediately after math, i went to look for haviland, where my history discussion was being held ... it took me forever to find it. i passed tiff s. along the way. that was cool. anyway, i got to my history discussion ... not too many people ... maybe twelve. my gsi is a second year grad student, but a first time gsi. he's very soft-spoken. the first thing i noticed about him was that he seemed to have very proper english ... then when he went on to describe how he'd grade our research papers, he said he'd be a stickler for grammar and spelling. i think that's a good thing becuase i think my grammar and spelling are semi-decent ... we'll see, though. the class seems pretty manageable, except that we have to summarize our reading every week ... that could get to be tiring. other than that, though, not a bad discussion. (gsi - 6/10, class ?)

i went back to the apartment after history ... i got back and mary lou (aka "M L", aka "mel") was sitting in our kitchen. we chatted a little until she had to go to class. i finished my yogurt and then took a nap. at 1:45, i start walking to etcheverry for math 55 discussion. i pass kenny wu twice along the way there. we were on opposite sides of hearst shouting to each other. "WHERE ARE YOU GOING?" "ETCHEVERY!" "WHAT?!?!" "ETCHEVERY!" haha ... my math 55 gsi seemed very nervous. he looked incredibly young; i thought he must not be older than twenty. he looks like a cross between paul carlson and "minkus" from "boy meets world." haha ... he was very timid, and didn't seem like he knew what he was doing. he gave us a "diagnostic quiz" ... i think i got both problems right. we got out of discussion half an hour early. (gsi - 5/10 ... i'd give him lower, but i'll give him a break because it's probably his first day.)

after math, i ran down to ned's to buy a history reader and a legal studies book (even though i'm not in legal studies for sure. i need to get started on the reading, though, in case i do get into the class.)

yup. that was my day. the best start of the semester to date. well, i guess it helps when you don't have to start your day at 8:00 sitting in a physics lecture. :-P. i have homework, but i've alreawdy finished my history assignment ... now i just gotta work on my psych one due friday. good job, bryan. so studious.

for all of you starting school tomorrow:

Matthew 6
33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

praying for you all.

hi.

so ... i'm in my apartment right now ... getting ready for school. i got back like around 7:30 and chi decides to make hamburgers. i decide to help him. we made hamburgers out of slabs of beef ... not ground beef ... slabs of beef. it was my job to "grind" the beef using a cleaver and some big meat tenderizer thing-my-bob ... then we seasoned the meat ... and cooked it ... and set off the fire alarm ... multiple times ... fun stuff ... anyhoo ... i thought tomorrow i'd be done by 12 ... i was wrong. i'll be done by 3. not much of a difference, but still ... argh. yuck.

surely goodness and mercy
