WHAT WOULD YOU DO FOR A KING? (as sung by Clay Crosse) What would you do for a king If He won all the battles He went out to fight And returned as a hero on a starlit night to a cheering crowd? Would it make you proud? What would you do for a king If He kept every promise that He'd ever made Would you get out the tickertape and lead a parade, a society ball? Would you care at all? Kings always seemed to me as such grand, imposing men So full of stature, full of power So much authority in every word they say I never thought I was quite the type But I'd still love to meet one someday What would you do for a king If He came to your door, would you ask Him in Would you tell Him how much you admired Him Do you think you'd dare Would you be too scared? Most kings don't seem to know much about the common man So far removed and set apart I cheer with thousands, we blend into a roar Another face in an endless crowd Is that all I really am, just one more? So what would you do for a king If He saw you fishing out by the sea And He walked up to you and said "Follow me - it's time you know" Do you think you'd go? And what would you do for a king If He took off his crown and agreed to die And as you tried to understand it, He looked you in the eye and said, "This is for you" Well, what would you do? ******************** it's true. if we had a king that won every battle he fought, we'd be out there cheering him on. we'd hold parades and be in total awe of him. yet, often when we think of our King of Kings, we don'ot do the same. you keep me from going crazy -bj

"The Christian life is not a life of self-fulfillment, but a life of self-denial." This is something Pastor Steve Wong stated at our H2O retreat ("Fat Camp"). I dunno. I guess that when I first heard it, it didn't make much sense to me. I didn't see what was the harm in living a fulfilled life. Now that I think about it, it makes a lot of sense. To paraphrase a verse in one of the gospels, Jesus said, "If any man wants to be my disciple, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me." Jesus himself calls us to deny ourselves. I don't think we are to deny just anything that will bring us joy and fulfillment. Rather, I think we are called to deny the lusts of the flesh, or the desires of the "old man". Once we become saved, we become "new men" and "new women". We are to deny these old men and women of their lusts and desires. Ideally, however, as we grow closer and closer to God, our desires become more and more aligned with His. Only then does the Christian life become a life of self-fulfillment, as we want what Jesus wants. Too often in this day and age we try to live for the day and live for ourselves. We strive to fulfill our sinful lusts. We play games instead of doing our homework. Talk on the phone instead of taking time to talk to God. Even though many of these things may not be "bad" per se, they are not helpful to us in our Christian walk. These activities contribute to living a life of self-fulfillment rather than self-denial. Like Paul says, all things may be allowed for me to do, but not everything is good for me. It's a matter of perspective and priorities. A perfect refrigerator - one in which no work is required to take heat from the low-temperature region to the high-temperature region - is not possible. (Giancoli, 526) -bj
1. [GianPSE3 25.P.042.] A small immersion heater can be used in a car to heat a cup of water for coffee. Assume the manufacturer's claim of 60 percent efficiency. If the heater can heat 300 mL of water from 5°C to 95°C in 6.0 min, approximately how much current does it draw from the 12 V battery? _________A What is its resistance? 2. [GianPSE3 25.P.076.] How far does an average electron move in either direction along the wires of a 296 W toaster during an alternating current cycle? The power cord has copper wires of diameter 2.1 mm and is plugged into a standard ac outlet. [Hint: the maximum current in the cycle is related to the maximum drift velocity. The maximum velocity in an oscillation is related to the maximum displacement.] _________m I just posted this in the hopes that someone would be nice and give me the answers. :-D it's a race! i'm WINNING! -bj

revised lyrics to the song i just wrote ***************** Safe In My Father's Arms I turn on the news today Seems like the world is going down No one's smiling anymore Seems like we can only frown And I see all around me People dying Children crying Hearts breaking Oh Lord, where can I turn? But in this world of doubt and fear This one thing still remains clear You're my shelter from the storm From the rain and from the cold And You'll keep me dry and warm All through the night And I'll find rest, and I'll find peace And You will keep me safe from harm And every night I fall asleep Safe in my Father's arms In this world of uncertainty It's so easy to fear But why should we be scared When our Father is so near? And he's standing there waiting With arms wide open With words softly spoken "My child, find rest here in My arms Here in My arms" But in this world of doubt and fear This one thing still remains clear You're my shelter from the storm From the rain and from the cold And You'll keep me dry and warm All through the night And I'll find rest, and I'll find peace And You will keep me safe from harm And every night I fall asleep Safe in my Father's arms ********* i put your picture away -bj
dwinelle is a very interesting place at 8:50 at night. i saw people swing dancing in the hallways, a large group of people studying in the big open area, frat boys running down the stairs, and every room filled with clubs, frats, and sororities ... very intersting. the swing dancing was pretty cool, though. batteries not included -bj
